Track the One Meta Ads Metric That Actually Matters in the Andromeda Era
Meta's algorithm now controls who sees your ads. Narrow targeting is dead. The only input you still control? Creative diversity.
But here's the issue: you're probably not measuring it.
You might feel like you're testing different angles. You've got ads running across price, quality, social proof, problem-solution. But without quantifying diversity, you don't know if you're:
Actually diverse (or just running 15 variations of the same discount offer)
Improving over time (or regressing to safe, single-angle messaging)
Seeing performance gains because of diversity (or despite poor distribution)
Most brands track spend, ROAS, and CPA. Almost none track the creative distribution that Andromeda rewards.
Introducing the Simpson Diversity Index
Borrowed from ecology (where it measures species diversity), the Simpson Diversity Index quantifies how evenly your creative approaches are distributed across your active campaigns.
Here's what it tells you:
The lower the diversity score (i.e. <0.7) the more heavily your ad account is concentrated on 1-2 creative angles. Andromeda has limited opportunities to test different audience segments.
Higher diversity scores indicate you're well-distributed across multiple angles. The algorithm can efficiently find pockets of responsive users across different messaging approaches.
The question is how strong of a correlation is there between diversity and performance (i.e. cpa). The stronger the correlation the more you can lean into it as a leading KPI.
