What it does
It writes last month's performance review as one deck, in the order of the growth equation: how you traded, where your new customers came from and what they cost, how well you keep customers and what they are worth over time, then what customers spend and which products they buy. Each part is read against the month before and the same month last year.
It is a slide doc: somewhere between a written report and a presentation, so it reads as well on its own as it does on screen.
Every slide leads with its takeaway, and each part closes on up to three recommendations. The deck opens on last month's actions, so you see what got done, and closes on the three things to do next month.
When to use it
At the start of each month, once the month before has closed. It is the starting point for your monthly team session, a pre-read to work from rather than the final word, and the read you send to an investor.
Reach for something else when:
- One number moved and you want to know why: /diagnose-performance splits the change and drills into it.
- You are planning a peak rather than reviewing a month: /plan-black-friday.
What it needs
Nothing to start. Without a Growth Brain it reads what your Claude is connected to (Shopify, Meta, Google Ads and Klaviyo) and, where a view has no connector, tells you which report to export. The views only a Growth Brain fills, such as lifetime value by order category and the line items behind your products, are marked in the deck as needing one, and so is any view your connectors and exports cannot fill.
Have your brand guidelines to hand, as a skill or a PDF, and the deck comes out in your design. Without them it uses the Crux design.
A Crux Growth Brain fills every slide, the appendix included, and adds your budget and profit margin where it holds them.
How it works
- IntakeIt asks which month, where the data comes from, your brand design, what happened in the month (a promotion, a launch, a stockout) and any part to go deeper on, such as retention. It finds last month's review and asks which of its actions were done. The more context you give, the sharper the read.
- ReadIt reads each part of the growth equation for the month, the month before and the same month last year, and checks every total against its own read.
- RecommendIt writes up to three recommendations for each part, each with its evidence, the action, the metric to watch and how to check it worked, ranked by the revenue at stake.
- WriteIt builds around forty slides in your brand's design, each titled with its takeaway, and checks every slide against its own quality bar before handing it over.
- CloseIt tells you the month in four lines and asks about any of last month's actions it could not mark, then updates that slide with your answers.
What you get
A slide doc for your team, around forty slides in your brand's design, that you can share or print to PDF: an executive summary, a section each for trading, acquisition, retention and lifetime value, and order value and products, the three actions to take next month, and an appendix of further views you can pull into the main deck. Charts switch between totals and share of total. It takes ten to twenty minutes, so start it and get on with something else. Nothing is changed in your ads, your store or your data.
Signs it's working
- Every slide's title is one sentence with a figure, not a label.
- Each slide shows the evidence, then what it means and what to do about it.
- Each recommendation names a segment and a concrete move on it, never just "close the gap".
- What you said happened in the month shows up on the slides it bears on.
- Last month's actions are each marked done or not done, with the reason.
FAQs
Do I need a Growth Brain?
No. It runs on your Shopify and ad account connectors, or on exports, and marks the slides it could not fill. A Growth Brain fills every slide.
Can it run on a schedule?
Yes. A message that names the month and where the data comes from runs without questions, so it can run as a scheduled task on the first of the month.
What if I didn't do last month's actions?
Say so, with the reason. The slide records it, and the next review starts from it.
How long does it take?
Ten to twenty minutes. It reads a whole month and builds around forty slides, so start it and leave it running.
Can I change what's in the deck?
Yes. Ask Claude to pull a slide in from the appendix, add a recommendation of your own, or go deeper on one part, such as retention.
Where it fits
Review month is the monthly read. When it shows a number that moved more than you expected, run /diagnose-performance on that number to find the driver. Ahead of November, /plan-black-friday turns the last two peaks into this year's plan.
